휘발유는 부피로 팔기 때문에 기온이 낮을 때 넣어야 더 이익인 것은 확실한데 얼마나 이익일까?
외국의 정유사 등 도매업자의 경우 석유제품 도매시 주로 부피를 기준온도(15℃)로 환산․ 온도 보정하여 거래하고 있지만, 주유소 소비자 판매단계에서는 대부분 온도보정없이 부피단위로 판매하고 있다. 물론 날씨가 추운 캐나다 일부지역의 주유소에서 판매업자의 손해방지를 위해 주유기에 온도보정장치를 설치하여 거래하는 경우는 있다고 한다. (출처: -2007.8.29, 산업자원부 에너지산업본부 석유산업팀 보도자료). 모두 판매자의 수익 보존 때문에 시행되고 있는데, 50 리터 주유하는 소비자의 이익은?

논문 결론에 따르면, 계절에 따른 변화는 있지만 기름을 계절에 한번 넣는 소비자는 없으니 패스. 하루 중 온도 변화를 보면 저장 탱크는 땅속에 있는데 김치독처럼 하루 종 온도변화는 ±0.2°C 이다. 휘발유의 부피변화는 1°C 변화에 0.1% 라고 하므로, 이는 0.02% 부피 변화에 해당한다. 50 리터를 넣으면 10 mL 차이이고, 리터당 휘발유 가격이 2000원이라고 하면 20원차이임을 알 수 있다.

기안84 같은 분이 사용하는 화면 위에 직접 펜으로 그릴 수 있는 액정 디지타이저(이걸 액정 태블렛이라고 부르는데... 아이패드 같은 태블렛과 영 이름이 혼동된다)와 펜/스타일러스가 필요하다. 컬러 모니터 위에 직접 펜으로 그림을 그리는 방식. 갤럭시 노트의 S펜을 컴퓨터 화면에 옮겨 놓은 것이다.
업계를 장악해 왔던 회사는 일본의 와콤. 신티크 계열의 액정 디지타이저가 13인치부터 32인치까지 있고, 당연히 엄청 비쌌다. 우리에게 다행인 것은 와콤 펜의 특허가 2010년대에 완료되어 중국, 심지어는 한국 회사들까지 비슷한 제품을 싸게 만들어 내기 시작한 것이다. (와콤이 싸게 팔아왔다면 경쟁회사들이 나오지 않았겠지만). 그러나 와콤의 하드웨어와 소프트웨어 기술 축적을 무시할 수 없지만, 취미로 필요한 사람에게는 여전히 비싸다. 중국의 Huion 과 XYPen 이 저가 제품으로 액정 태블렛, 액정 디지타이저 시장을 상당히 잠식했는데, 특히 Huion 은 배터리 없는 EMR 펜을 써서 와콤과 같은 기술이다보니 가격이 아주 싸지는 않다. (물론 와콤은 가격을 조금 내렸고...). 아주 액정 디지타이저에 CPU까지 내장한 펜컴퓨터 급도 있다.

전자기장 공명 펜(EMR pen)의 압력 민감도 (필압), 반응속도, 액정 두께, 팜 리젝션 (손의 다른 부분이 화면에 닿아도 펜 이외에는 알아서 반응하지 않는 기능)을 직접 경험해보고 구입하는 것이 좋다. 삼성 갤럭시 노트를 사용해본 사람은 이미 와콤 펜을 경험하고 있다. 필압은 삼성 s펜, 와콤 보급형 등은 4000 레벨, 와콤 일반 제품과 중국산 경쟁제품은 8000 레벨을 지원한다. 어떤 펜은 1000 레벨 정도를 지원하는 경우도 있는데, 이런 제품은 밑줄 긋는 용도 외에는 적절하지 않다. 펜의 반응속도도 와콤 기술이 최고이고, 어떤 액정은 표면과 그림표시 영역이 두꺼워 약간 떠 보이는 것이 불편할 수도 있다. 와콤 수고했어요!
아이패드나 갤럭시 탭 같은 태블렛이 최고이다. 소프트웨어가 더 중요한데, 아이패드 굿노트, 갤럭시 탭에서는 노트쉘프 등이 잘 발달되어 있다. 일반 태블릿은 액정 디지타이저와 달리 화면이 짱짱하며, 여러 다른 기능들을 함께 사용할 수 있다. (이메일, 일정관리, 전자책, 동영상, 게임 등). 휴대성도 매우 뛰어나다.
2-in11 제품은 휴대성은 있으나 비싸거나(삼성 플렉스 i5 190만원) 와콤펜 라이선스가 아니면 OS의 펜 기능이 조금 떨어져서 그래픽 용으로는 쓰기에는 적절하지 않다. 발열과 소음도 무시할 수 없다. 그러나 휴대성이 필요하고 고객 상담이나 간단한 메모를 써서 설명하는 용도로노트북과 태블렛 혹은 노트북과 액정 디지타이저를 함께 가지고 다니는 것보다 훨씬 편리한 것은 사실이다.

Queenstown, New Zealand The adrenaline capital of the world is just a stone's throw away from some of the country's most incredible natural wonders, from milky-blue Lake Wakatipu to the so-called "big three" mountains (the Remarkables, Cecil Peak, and Walter Peak). St Petersburg, Russia St. Petersburg may have been immortalized by Dostoyevsky and Tolstoy, but the city is well worth exploring beyond the pages of a book. Palace Square provides front-row viewing of both the Building of the General Staff and Winter Palace, the latter of which may be Russia's finest example of Baroque architecture. San Francisco, California * The Golden Gate Bridge is just the beginning. San Francisco’s world-class museums and cultural institutions rival any on the planet—remarkable for a city of fewer than a million people. The adventurous spirit that made San Francisco what it is today thrives in the new restaurants, cafes, shops and galleries sprinkled throughout what is, arguably, the most beautiful city in the U.S.
San Miguel de Allende, Mexico Many consider colonial-era San Miguel de Allende one of Mexico’s prettiest cities, and it’s no wonder. Here, you’ll find leafy courtyards, narrow cobblestone streets, and a historic town center from which the Gothic Parroquia de San Miguel Arcángel’s pink towers rise high above the main plaza.
Seoul, South Korea * Bundle up the video game-glow of Tokyo, the food scene of Singapore, and the English-speaking streets of Hong Kong, stretch that out over a sprawl of skyscrapers and village-style neighborhoods, and then cram in a ton of fantastic shopping—and you get Seoul. Sydney, Australia It's almost not fair how pretty Sydney is. Australia’s biggest city benefits from a waterfront culture, with locals hopping on ferries to commute home—or play—on Bondi, Manly, and Coogee beaches, with the dramatic Sydney Opera House stands sentry in the harbor.
Tallinn, Estonia Tallinn practically overflows with storybook charm, thanks to colorful buildings, turreted castles, and a lovely location on the Baltic Sea. The city has one of the best-preserved historical centers in Europe, with many of its medieval churches and merchant houses falling under UNESCO protection. The views of the city center from Toompea Castle are beautiful no matter the season—in fact, they make those cold, Baltic winters downright bearable.
Valletta, Malta Designated a “Capital of Culture” by the European Union, Valletta has a lot to offer—particularly, its Baroque architecture. The Phoenicia Hotel in front of Valletta’s City Gate offers stunning views of the city and harbors, along with one of the best hotel breakfasts around. HP (Hewlet-Packard) 의 계산기 제품이 채택했던 연산 입력 방식은 Reverse Polish Notation 이라고 불린다. 이 방식은 연산자를 연산 대상의 다음에 쓰는 방식으로, 우리는 1 과 2 를 더할때 1 + 2 라고 쓰지만, RPN 방식으로 하면 1 2 + 가 된다. 이 방식은 1과 2를 차례대로 메모리(스택, stack)에 넣고, 그 다음에 연산을 실행하고 사용했던 스택의 숫자들을 지워버리고 결과만을 스택에 남기는 방식이다. 1과 2가 더해지면서 스택에는 3만 남는다, 익숙해 지는데 시간이 걸리지만 스택의 변화와 Last X stack까지 이해하고 활용하게 되면 뜻밖에 계산기 입력이 편리해진다.
이공학용 계산기의 개발자인 HP 는 계산기의 제한된 메모리를 효과적으로 사용하기 위해서 이 방법을 채택하였다. 예를 들어 "3" "5" "+" "4" "2" "-" "*" 는 (3 + 5) X (4 - 2) 가 되는데, 이를 단 3 개의 스택으로 해결하는 것이다. 일반 계산기로 저 계산을 하려면 (3+5)의 결과를 어딘가에 저장했다가 다시 불러오는 작업이 필요했을 것이다. 또 HP 이공학용 계산기의 꽃이었던 계산기 프로그램 코드도 RPN으로 좀 쉽게 구현되는 것도 장점이었다. (괄호가 어디 있어요?)

그러나 세상은 변하여 메모리와 CPU 가 싸지고 발전하니 굳이 RPN 방식을 안 써도 계산식의 많은 괄호나 중간 과정들을 사용자가 의식하지 않게 임시 메모리에 저장했다가 불러와 계산이 가능해졌고, HP 도 결국 RPN 계산기를 일반 계산모드로 쓸 수 있는 기기 설정을 넣어 주는 제품이 나왔다.
R&D 위주 제품개발하는 벤처에서 대기업이 된 HP 는 이제 $59.99짜리 HP 35S 만 제품으로 남겨 놓았고, 그나마 홈페이지에서는 "재고 없음"으로 표시하고 있다. (물론 아마존이나 알리바바에서는 아직 새 제품을 구할 수 있다.)

스위스에 있는 swiss micros 라는 회사에서 HP RPN 계산기들, 그것도 단종된 추억의 제품들(HP 41CX, HP 42S, HP 11, HP 15, HP 16까지!)을 클론으로 생산하고 있다. ARM cortex CPU에서 HP 에뮬레이터를 통해 구현하였지만, 이런 일이야말로 진정한 메이커의 자존심과 성취가 아닐까?
하지만 계산기 하나의 가격이 120~230 CHF 이니 한국돈 15~29만원이다. 소량 생산으로 비쌀 수 밖에 없겠지만 차마 구매할 용기가 안난다. 키 배치가 전통적 HP 이공학 계산기와 다르기는 하지만 얼마전에 구입한 HP-35s 가 너무나 쌩쌩하게 잘 사용하고 있기 때문이다. 만약 다음 공학용 계산기를 사야할 일이 생긴다면, 스위스마이크로즈에서 HP 계산기 클론으로~
2019년 12월 개봉 당시 국뽕이냐 아니냐 가지고 말이 많았던 영화. 리뷰 일절 안 보고 안 읽고 있다가, 올레 티비 프라임 무비에 들어왔기에 2020년 11월에 거실에서 보았다. 개봉 당시 관객 820만명.
초반 CG 특히 강남역과 신논현 사이 거리의 붕괴와 자동차 신 멋있고, 하정우와 이병현 연기 좋고, 마지막에 이병현과 딸의 신파에 북한에서 월남하여 고생하신 할아버지 아버지 세대 생각나서 눈물 지었다. 그러나 백두산 분화와 북한 핵이라는 좋은 소재를 가지고 이런 감성을 넣을 필요가 있었는지, 줄거리의 개연성을 약하게 하면서 흥행 요소들을 모두 집어 넣어야 했는지는 의문이다. (뭐 마블 유니버스나 DC 유니버스는 개연성 있나^^) 그러려면 차라리 넷플릭스 드라마로 만들었으면 나았을 것이다.

사고 당시부터 관심이 많아 자세한 이야기를 알고 있었지만, 탑승했던 우주비행사와 민간인들, 그들의 가족, 나사와 관련 회사 관계자들의 증언, 진상조사 위원회의 활동 등을 소상하게 편집하여 나름 집중해서 볼 수 있었다.

개인의 천재성보다는 시스템이 돌아가는 나라, 미국. 비록 폭발사고의 비극을 막지 못했지만 결국 이를 해결해 나가는 사람들, 좌절하고 멈출 수 만은 없다고 말하는 사람, 가족과 동료가 희생되었지만 그 희생이 결코 헛되지 않게 만들기 위해서 최선을 다하는 모습은 국경을 초월하여 숙연함을 느끼게 한다.
