라인백어 Junior Seau

Tiaina Baul "Junior" Seau Jr. ( January 19, 1969 – May 2, 2012)

미국 NFL의 라인배커.

사모아 출신 부모 사이에서 캘리포니아 샌 디에고에서 태어났고, USC 에서 대학 미식축구선수로 활약했다. 성실한 플레이로 인정 받았고, 샌 디에고 차져스에서 등번호 55번으로  13 시즌을 뛰고, 마이아미 돌핀스, 뉴잉글랜드 패트리아츠에서 활약하고 2009년 시즌에 은퇴하였다. 2015년 미국 프로풋볼 명예의 전당(Pro Football Hall of Fame)에 헌정되었다.

불행히도 그는 2012년 5월 2일, 43세의 나이로 가슴에 총을 쏴 자살하였다. NIH에 따르면 그는 chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE)으로 불리는 뇌손상으로 고생한 것으로 판명되었다.

그의 딸이 명예의 전당에 헌정된 아버지를 대신하여 호텔 방에서 감사의 말을 전하였다. 왜 호텔 방이냐고? NFL 에서는 살아 있는 사람만이 감사의 말을 전한다는 규정이 있기 때문이라고 한다. 아버지를 그리는 딸의 마음이 잘 녹아있다.
